Press and contact
Where Councils Stand is an independent, non-partisan research site on what councils across the UK have discussed, decided and voted on, from their own minutes.
Contact
- Email admin@wherecouncilsstand.com for press, research or anything else.
- To report a mistake in a briefing, a vote or a council's page, or to ask for something to be removed, please use the corrections page, so that it is logged and dealt with.
How to cite
Briefings are written by AI from the cited minutes, so where you can, quote and cite the minutes themselves. Every source on the site names the council, the meeting and its date, and links to the council's own record. For example:
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Full Council, 26 February 2025, minutes, item 10.
To cite a briefing itself:
Where Councils Stand (2026). “What have councils decided about weekly bin collections since 2023?” Briefing written by AI from councils' minutes. https://wherecouncilsstand.com/b/… (accessed 6 November 2026).
Each briefing's address is permanent and shows the date it was prepared. A named vote has its own page, at an address that doesn't change, with each councillor's party on the date and a link to the minutes. Briefings and data are licensed under CC BY 4.0; quotations from minutes remain each council's copyright. See the terms.
About the site, in brief
- Lists every principal council in the UK, and covers those that publish their minutes through Modern.gov, CMIS or CoINS: full council and cabinet meetings since May 2018, brought up to date every night. How many councils, meetings and named votes it holds today is on the status page.
- Each named vote shows every councillor's party on the date. The reading of votes has been checked by hand; expect about 1 vote in 100 to have a councillor on the wrong side (see how it works).
- Briefings draw evidence in turn from councils under each party's control, cite every point, and are checked word for word against the minutes. Names of people who aren't councillors are removed.
- A Where They Stand project. Where They Stand is applying to register as a charity in England and Wales; until then the site is run by its founder. It has no advertising and no tracking. See About.
- Independent: not affiliated with or endorsed by any council, the Local Government Association, Civica or Northgate.
